40 LPS students have been recognized by National Merit Scholarship Program

Seven students from Littleton Public Schools’ three high schools have been named National Merit Semifinalists, an additional 31 were named National Merit Commended Scholars, 1 was named National Hispanic Scholar and 1 was named Achievement Scholar. More than 1.3 million students in 21,000 U.S. high schools entered the 2006 Merit Program, and about 16,000 nationally qualified as National Merit Semifinalists. To be named a Semifinalist, a student must score in the top range of the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test), which is given nationally. LPS Semifinalists will now compete with other students nationally to become National Merit Finalists and for a share of more than $30 million in scholarship money.

To become a finalist, students must not only have an outstanding academic record, but must be endorsed and recommended by their principal; submit their SAT scores, a detailed scholarship application including an essay; and submit information about their participation and leadership in school and community activities.

Finalists will be announced in April, 2007.

LPS Combined Charities Campaign raises nearly $40,000

LPS employees once again demonstrated their generosity as they donated $39,216 to the following local charities:LPS Foundation, Inter-Faith Community Services, Mile High United Way, and Partnership for Colorado.We offer our sincere thanks to the many employees who volunteered to coordinate the charities drive at the building level.The time, talent, and treasure employees give make a difference for the children and families in the communities we serve.
